popular in countries like India, Nepal, Pakistan etc. Pani puri consists
of crispy puri and mashed potato served with spicy sticky brown water.
On the other hand, Chatpate is a hot, spicy and sour street food made of
puffed rice, noodles, and a combination of more ingredients.

We are having such street food daily because they are
easily available, cheap, tasty, and tempting food. But we are unknown about the
making of street food or even we are ignoring the bad sides of such street
foods only because they are rich in taste. On the other hand, we develop the
daily habits of eating such spicy, hot and unhygienic food that we cannot find
the flavor in our homemade food. Unhygienic because the ingredients may store
for a long time which have no expiry date.
The puri are deep fried into oil and stored for
long weeks by the sellers and we find great taste in long stored food. Some
street food sellers also use oil which is already used to fry those puri.
Twice use of oil is not good for our health and can cause cancer and heart
related diseases. The recycled oil is harmful enough to lead to cancer. But who
cares? We still consume puri by dipping it into spicy and sour water.
The Pani puri water contains too much salt that causes the kidney to
work overtime and in some cases it leads to kidney failure too.
Along with the Pani puri we are eating hookworms
and pinworms because they spread easily through hands.
Now let’s talk about the next street food, without it we
cannot imagine our life right? From the child to teenager or adult to old, this
street food has stolen everyone’s heart. This famous street food that is found
in every street of Kathmandu city is Chatpate.
As we know, Chatpate is the combination of
more ingredients. Not only this, such street food is also the combination of
unhealthy storage, reused ingredients, unhygienic location and poor quality
spices. It is very common even in Rainy season and Typhoid is very common in
the rainy season with those street foods. Wait, I will explain the close
relationship between Chatpate and Typhoid. Have you ever suffered from
abdominal pain or diarrhea because of large consumption of such street food?
Sometimes overeating or daily consumption also cause vomiting, right? Let me
drag you to the dark side of Chatpate.
We know, Vermillion powder can be used as a cosmetic
product but it is used as an edible food color in Chatpate, Pani puri and
other street food.
Breaking down nutrients in 50g Chatpate:
- Carbohydrate:
5g
- Fat: 8g
- Protein: 12g
- Others: 25g
Along with the Chatpate, we eat Vermillion powder,
dust of the street, different bacteria, citric acid, boiled potatoes which are
stored for a long time, chilly or onions cut by a rusty knife or scissor
without washing them properly. Chatpate also includes junk foods like
noodles, artificial flavors and food colors. We are enjoying the water of puri
which is stored over 24 hours.
No one knows the water of Pani puri is made by how
much safe drinking water is because after the mixture of citric acid, unwashed
coriander, too much salt and Pani puri masala, we found it delicious,
juicy and tasty. It is not a cheapS price to pay 60-100 per plate of Pani
puri.

Ayurveda food is categorized into three parts, let’s see
such spicy, hot, sour and unhygienic food comes under which category and which
is the best food for our health. The category of food is also mentioned in the
Book ‘Bhagavad Gita as it is’ in chapter-14.
1. Sattvic Food:
The food which directly comes from nature or prepared in
a pure way without mixture of any chemicals, onion-garlic and only with the
essential fat and spices to cook is called Sattvic food. It has a very
high nutritional value and highly recommended food. It includes juice, honey,
grains, vegetables, fruits, milk, ghee, rice etc.
2. Rajasic Food:
All the tempting foods come under this category. They are
very hot, spicy, bitter or salty. It includes excess flavoring of salt or
spices. It contains low nutritional value and those people who consume such
foods tend to be egoistic, aggressive and ambitious. It increases anger,
jealousy and also quickly drains mental energy. For eg: Chatpate, Pani puri,
Lapping, pizza etc.
3. Tamasic Food:
It is a very low category of food that includes meat,
fish, mushroom, alcohol, onion-garlic etc. This food is not considered good for
the body and mind in Ayurveda. It is the cause of anger, stress, depression and
laziness. It is very harmful to health and contains no nutrition value. They
are not easily digested and sometimes different diseases can be caused due to
the meat of animals.
List of alternative foods of Chatpate and Panipuri:
- Fresh Juice
- Dried Fruits
- Homemade
Smoothie
- Lemon Water
- Dark Chocolate
To conclude, homemade food is far better than unhygienic
street food. If you enjoy street foods, then try fresh and hygienic fruit
juice. Make homemade Pani puri with available fresh vegetables, fresh
hot boiled potato, and safe drinking water to make water of puri.
Instead of paying 60-100 per plate of Pani puri,
buy a packet of Pani puri and fry it in home oil which is fresh and you
can enjoy more plates at a cheap price. If you like to eat something different
from daily taste then you can also try dried fruits, homemade smoothies, lemon
water etc. If you can’t live without Pani puri then you can try once in
a month because more consumption of such Rajasic and Tamasic food
can cause skin problems like pimples, rashes etc.
In fact, Bollywood actresses also avoid the Rajasic
and Tamasic food in order to maintain PH. value of skin, prevent from
anti-aging and to make the natural glow in skin from inside. Therefore we
recommend that you avoid those foods in street pushcarts which are sold in
unhygienic fashion and take yourself to a healthier place. Health is
yours and life is yours, being a conscious human it is totally up to you
what to eat and what to avoid.
